About UsThe Alliance of Brunswick County Property Owner's Associations (Alliance; ABCPOA) was started in 1999 as the result of meetings between representatives of Ocean Ridge Plantation, Brunswick Plantation, St. James Plantation and Brick Landing Plantation. The "Founding Fathers" were:Dick Giehl of Brick Landing, Lee Weddig of Brunswick, Gary Halberstadt and Thack Brown of Ocean Ridge, Bob Bobinski of Sea Trail, and Gary Tagtmeyer of St. James. The purpose of creating the Alliance was to develop a forum to discuss common concerns and issues in order to approach county and state governments with a unified voice and to assure as much as possible that our comments and positions were considered and addressed. The ABCPOA currently is comprised of 13 members representing about 10,000 residents. The range of interests of the Alliance has expanded to areas of concern for all Brunswick County residents. The Alliance has eight active external committees dealing with a variety of issues. These include: 1. Planning Board and Zoning Evaluation 2. County Commissioners/Budget and Taxes 3. Public Safety 4. Transportation 5. Education 6. Healthcare 7. Environmental Issues Committees are staffed by volunteers from each of our members and are the heart and soul of the organization (go to the Committees link for more details). The Alliance is open to membership for communities interested in joining it's ranks. Annual dues range from $50 to $250, depending upon size. The only requirement for membership is that a community must have at least twenty homes with an active POA or similar association. Each member, no matter the size, has one representative on the Board of Directors. And each member, no matter the size, has only one vote. The underlying operational tenet of the ABCPOA is that all members receive a concern or issue of one member with sympathetic ears, even if the concern or issue is isolated to the one member. HOME |
